The Alexandria Police Officers provide both partial and full scholarships for Alexandria children who want to attend camp but cannot afford it. The determination is made by the Board of Directors. Please contact us using the Contact Us page to learn more about these scholarships.
We also have children outside of Alexandria who attend camp, coming from areas around Richmond County up to DC and Maryland! Again, please use the Contact Us page and request an application for your child.
The camp runs for 6 weeks each summer in July & August. Each week runs from Sunday to Friday, with the children staying overnight at our facility. The Alexandria City Schools have also partnered with us, providing transportation from Alexandria to camp, so you don't even need a car to get here - we'll bring you!
The camp is available for youth ages 9-15, and though there is a cost, we offer financial assistance. The Alexandria Police Officers donate of their time and money to make sure no child gets left behind due to a lack of money.
While at camp, kids enjoy living in cabins with 10 other campers grouped by age. Each cabin has highly trained counselors from all over the globe. During the daylight hours, campers enjoy a well-rounded camp experience which includes traditional activities like swimming, arts and crafts, and archery, as well as some unique activities like crabbing, fishing, tubing, kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing.
We pride ourselves on character development and takes time every day to work with campers on the YMCA Character Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Our goal is to return your camper tired and with knowledge of these four character values.
